Doris A. Cooper Port Huron Doris A. Cooper, 77 of Port Huron, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012 in Medilodge of Port Huron following a long illness. She was born to Maynard and Annie DeLong on February 19, 1935 in Cass City, MI and married Robert P. Cooper on April 23, 1953 in Port Huron. Doris worked for 17 years as a nurses aide with the St. Clair County Council on Aging. She was life member of both the Women of the Moose, Chapter 99, Port Huron and Port Huron Auxiliary 3702 FOE, and she was also very involved in each organization's fundraising activities. She was also a member of the Garfield Church of Christ in Port Huron. Doris enjoyed bowling, crocheting, and attending art shows. She was also a frequent visitor to area nursing homes. Doris is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Robert P. Cooper; four children, Lynda (Michael) Marth of Chesterfield Twp., Brenda (Daryl Smith) Sprouse of Folsom, CA, Donald Cooper of Muskegon Heights, MI and Dennis Cooper of Fort Gratiot; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Miskell of Sacremento, CA and Dolly Harrington of Port Huron; many nieces and nephews; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law in Sarnia. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Umbreit, and three sisters, Eunice Englehart, Irene DeLong, and Madeline Carlisle. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, October 28, 2012 in Smith Family Funeral Home-South, 1230 Seventh St. with the funeral service beginning at 4:30 p.m. Minister Lee Bracey, Executive Director of the Illinois Children's Home, will officiate.
