Edward J. Bilkovic, age 89, died Sunday, November 3, 2013 at his daughter's home in Sterling Heights.
He was born May 30, 1924 in Shadyside, OH., son of the late Joseph and Julia Bilkovic. He and Janet L. Lowry were married on June 21, 1952 at St. Joan of Arc Church in St. Clair Shores.
Ed was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Army. He serviced restaurant and bar equipment. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church where he was a lector, was a member of the V.F.W., and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. When he lived in Grosse Pointe Woods he coached Little League and umpired for many years.
Surviving are his wife Janet; sons David (Susan) of Columbus, OH, Michael (Kimberly) of Romulus and Mark (Kimberly) of West Bloomfield; daughters Shelly (Melvin) Raab of Sterling Heights, Theresa (John) Cannell of Toronto and Geralyn (Kevin) Hahn of Warren; sister Irene Burkhart of Shadyside, OH; 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Sharon Ventimiglia.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30a.m. Saturday, November 9 at Ave Maria Parish St. Denis Church, Lexington. The Rev. Donald Eppenbrock will officiate. Burial will be in St. Denis Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Pomeroy Funeral Home, Lexington from 3 to 9 P.M. Friday and at the Church from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. Saturday. Prayer service 7 P.M. Friday. In lieu of flowers, family has requested memorials to Great Lakes Hospice Foundation (greatlakeshospicefoundation.org).
