James A. "Jim" Dickey Estero, Florida James A. "Jim" Dickey 77, of Estero, FL died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Joanne's House at Hope Hospice. Formerly of Port Huron, MI he had been a resident of Estero since 2005. Jim was born April 21, 1935 in Miamisburg, OH a son of the late C. Edward and Mabel (Alt) Dickey. James graduated from Miamisburg High School in 1954 and attended the University of Michigan where he earned both a Master's and a Specialist's degree in education. During his time at the U-M he excelled at both football and baseball. He was named All-Big Ten catcher during his senior year. Following graduation, Mr. Dickey's career was spent teaching and coaching in many Michigan school districts including, Manistee, Sparta and Port Huron before retiring in 1992. Jim was inducted into the Miamisburg High School Hall of Fame in 1994, the Sparta Area Schools Hall of Fame in 2004, and the Michigan Coach's Hall of Fame in 2004. He enjoyed boating, golfing, traveling, theater, and most importantly spending time with family and friends. Mr. Dickey was also a longtime season ticket holder to the Michigan Wolverines football games. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Rosetta (Plummer) Dickey; children, Bradley Dickey of Livermore, CA, Cynthia Krause of Port Huron, MI; brothers, Richard (Winnie) Dickey of Carlisle, OH, Edward Dickey of Lima, OH; and two grandchildren, Logan and Mason Dickey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Lulu Delphene Hensley. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail So., Bonita Springs, FL 34134. The family suggests donations be made to Joanne's House at Hope Hospice, 27200 Imperial Pkwy., or to First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs, 9751 Bonita Beach Rd., Bonita Springs, FL 34135. A resort casual reception will be held after the ceremony.
