Margaret Irland Obituary
Margaret L. Irland

Burtchville Twp.

Margaret Lewis Irland, age 99, died Monday, January 20, 2014 at Sanctuary at Mercy Village in Fort Gratiot where she had made her home for the last eight years.

She was born October 15, 1914 in Detroit. Her parents were Clyde T. Lewis and Mary Ann Mohr Lewis. She was the second oldest of four children. Marge and Owen Charles Irland were married May 30, 1936 at St. Scholastica Church, Detroit. He passed away February 10, 1985.

Marge and Owen moved to Jeddo, the area now known as North Lakeport, in 1947 and that is where they raised their four children. Marge was proud of the years she worked for Kresge on Woodward Avenue  in downtown Detroit, Thorne and Gaffield along the lake, and her 26 years at the Port Huron Credit Bureau. She retired at age 75 and continued to be actively traveling with the Nomads and family. She was an avid bridge player from about age 15 into her nineties. She golfed many holes at the Port Huron Elks Club and usually insisted on walking the course. After her retirement in 1989 she was a common sight walking her 5 miles a day along "old" Lakeshore Road.

Marge is survived by her four children: Susan Kilmer of Leroy, Mi.,  Lynn Geer of Lexington, Peter (Ginny) Irland of Kimball Twp., and Kathy (Tom) Dawson of Croswell. Granny is also survived by her 12 grandchildren (Brian, Cindy, Maggi, Dan, Brad, Penny, Matt, Pam, Janis, Tom, Kevin, & Cari) and their families, including her 20 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Marge was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Owen, a grandson Michael  Dawson, and two sons-in-law Paul Kilmer and Paul Geer.

Cremation has taken place and the family will have a private service at a later date.

Arrangements by Pomeroy Funeral Home, Lexington.
