Orlin L. Denslow

Orlin L. Denslow, age 90, of East China Twp., passed away peacefully March 9, 2014, surrounded by the loving caregivers at River's Bend. Orlin was born February 6, 1924 in Weidman, Michigan to the late Eva and Leonard Denslow.

He married Audrey Risdon of Greenville, Michigan on January 16, 1944, shortly thereafter he was called to serve his country during World War II with the U.S. Army. He served in the Battle of Luzon, part of the Asiatic Pacific Theatre in the Philippines and was also part of the occupation of Japan. He served in reconnaissance as a sharpshooter. Of the many military awards he received he was most proud of his Good Conduct Medal. Orlin patterned his life during his time of service and after service on good conduct. His calm demeanor and the way he always was caring for others is how his family will remember him.

Upon his discharge from the Army on August 15, 1946, he began his career in the natural gas business. He started at Sohio at Sherman Field in Barryton, Michigan. His career continued on at Washington Station in Washington, Louisiana. He returned to Michigan to be employed by Michigan Consolidated Gas Co. as a Supervisor until his retirement in March 1985. He loved talking about the gas business till the very end, especially with his grandson Jeff.

Orlin is survived by his daughter and son in law, Maraleen and Fred Cottrell, grandson and his wife, Jeff and Lisa Cottrell, granddaughter, Lisa Hutkowski, and source of great pride great grandson, Kevin Gerald Hutkowski Jr. and sister in law, Alice Denslow.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Denslow on October 12, 2005 and daughter, Lorraine Denslow on September 3, 2009.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday March 15th at 11:00 a.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp., Rev. Ken Gadd of St. James UCC, Casco Twp. and Jim Ludwick will officiate.  Interment and military honors will follow in Rosehill Cemetery, East China Twp. Visitation will be Friday 1:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to services. Memorials may be made to the wishes of the family.
