Croswell

Richard A. Bales, age 79, a resident of Croswell passed away on Friday October 18, 2013 at the Medilodge of Yale.

He was born on May 9, 1934 in Walkerville, Ontario a son of the late William and Muriel (Long) Bales.  Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956.  He married Gail A. McClusky on November 10, 1956 in Angola, Indiana.

Together Dick and Gail purchased the Ferriby Greenhouse in Croswell in August of 1971 and moved their young family to Croswell.   The Croswell Greenhouse has been owned and operated by the Bales family to this day.   Dick was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Croswell; member of the Croswell Rotary Club; member of the EDC Board for the City of Croswell; served on the Croswell Cemetery Board and was a member of the Croswell American Legion.

Dick is survived by his wife Gail Bales of Croswell, five children Steve (Luanne) Bales of Croswell, David (Debbie) Bales of Jenison, Randy (Ann) Bales of Croswell, Elaine (Gill) VanCamp of Croswell and Amy (Jeff) Cummings of Jackson; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; five brothers and sisters William (Kathryn) Bales, Michael (Sally) Bales, Judith Eno, Mary Jane Ritz and Mark (Sue) Bales; several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his sister B. Joan Lang on October 10, 2013.

Visitation will be from 2-8 on Monday at the Pomeroy Funeral Home in Croswell.  Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Croswell.  Rev. Kenneth Hetzel will officiate, with visiting at the church from 10-11. Interment with Military Rites will follow in the Croswell Cemetery.

Memorials in memory of Dick may be made to either the Croswell Rotary Club or the Presbyterian Church.
