Cherry Beach

Roy R. Barnett, 73, of Cherry Beach, entered eternal life on Wednesday, May 07, 2014. He was born August 20, 1940 in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late Roy & Dorothy Barnett. He graduated high school in San Diego, CA and obtained his Metallurgy Degree from Macomb Community College. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps and Air Force.  He married Margaret Sam November 16, 1963 in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Roy worked for Chrysler for 17 years at the Jefferson assembly plant. He continued his work career at Selfridge Air Base until he retired in 2001. He was active in the North-South Skirmish Association with competitive Musket and Carbine Rifle shooting. He enjoyed reading and was a Civil War buff.

Roy is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret "Peggy"; children, Jeanne Barnett of Warren, Colleen (Kevin) Prokop of Clinton Township, Roy Barnett of Marine City; grandchildren, Elena Barnett, David, Olivia, and Philip Girimonte and Elizabeth and Bill Barnett; two sisters, Shirley (Isaac) Jacob of Harrison Township and Jean (Harry) Hansford of Alabama and several nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Meade and Frances Webb.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, May 10, 2014 in Our Lady on the River Parish, Holy Cross. Father Stephen Rooney, pastor of Our Lady on the River Parish will officiate. Visitation will be from 3-8 pm Friday in Bower-Rose Funeral Home, Marine City and Saturday from 9:30 until the time of mass at church. A scripture service will be held Friday evening at 7:00 pm. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Marine City.
