Rufus S. Castillo Obituary
Rufus S. Castillo Flint Age 83, formerly of Port Huron, passed away peacefully at his residence, surrounded by his loving family on Good Friday, March 29, 2013. Mr. Castillo was born June 4, 1929 in Fannie, Texas to parents Martin and Florentina. Mr. Castillo was a kind, loving and devoted family man, who was very strong in his faith. He served as an Army medic and fought courageously during the Korean War. Mr. Castillo worked at Fisher Body and then General Motors for 35 before retiring. He was a founding member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, and served on numerous committees to include the Altar Society, Caballeros de San Juan, St. Vincent de Paul and the Knights of Columbus to name a few. He especially enjoyed volunteering at the local soup kitchen. Mr. Castillo loved the outdoors. He was an avid walker, enjoyed reading, gardening, fishing and baseball. He and his wife Theresa also enjoyed spending time at the casino. Mr. Castillo leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 54 years, Theresa; daughters Mary, Patricia (Richie), Ramona, and Delores (Sam) all of Flint, Catherine (Doug) Strickland of Longview, TX, Gloria (Amir) Gharib of Cairo Egypt, and Rosa (Anthony) Evans of Jacksonville, FL; son, Rafael, also of Flint; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; brothers Paul, John and Robert; sisters: Cecelia, Lupe and Josie. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Janie and great-grandchild Florentina. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2316 W. Coldwater Rd., Flint, with Father Cecilio Reyna officiating. The family will receive visitors on Monday, April 1 from 1-8 pm at Reigle Funeral Home, 5501 W. Pierson Rd., Flushing and on Tuesday, April 2 from 1-8 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rosary at 7p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church or Building Fund.
