Cyril Jerome (Jerry) Flynn

Jerry Flynn died peacefully at his home on Saturday at the age of 94. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church. Father Dan O'Connor, Father Craig Scott, Rev. Msgr. Steve Testa and Deacon Todd Marye will officiate. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park under the direction of John Kramer & Son. Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Jerry "C.J." Flynn was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Arthur and Mary McGowan Flynn; brother, Francis (Son) Flynn and sister, Marie Flynn Powe.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Geraldine Theresa Mayeux Flynn; son, James Patrick Flynn of Wimauma, Florida; son, Michael Wills Flynn (Billie Love Flynn) of Pollock, daughter, Martha Ann Flynn McMaster (Tom McMaster) of Hickory, Pennsylvania, son, John Richard Flynn (Nina Butler Flynn) of Alexandria, and son, Thomas Carney Flynn (Belinda Foster Flynn) of Topeka, Kansas. He also survived by sisters Avice Flynn Pias and Rosemary Flynn Gist of Alexandria, and brother, Sidney Flynn of Lafayette, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is survived by 13 grandchildren: Bessie Christensen (Cory), James Flynn, Jr. (Andrea), Michael Taylor (Shellie), Kate Grant (Mike), Scott McMaster (Donna), Lisa McMaster (Joe), Rebecca Brodnax (Brian), David Flynn (Aspen), Daniel Flynn (Rachelle), Kelsey Flynn, Kyle Flynn, Leah Flynn and Keenan Flynn.
He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren: Kaden Christensen, Avery Christensen, Melanie Flynn, Kylee Flynn, Alivea Flynn, Hayden Taylor, Gunnar Grant, Abbie Grant, Max Grant, Molly Brodnax, Mary Claire Brodnax, Taylor Brodnax, Anna Flynn, Tucker McCoy and Alaina Flynn.
Mr. Flynn was president of Flynn Building Specialties of Alexandria, LA where he worked for over 60 years. Jerry served in World War II as a Navy corpsman. He was a member of Serra Club and a past member of the Lions Club. He enjoyed reading and rode his bicycle many years after mass each Sunday. He served as usher for many years at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. He was a Fourth Degree Sir Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Jerry was a graduate of Bolton High School and Louisiana State University.
The Flynn family would like to thank Faith Foundation Hospice and all of the sitters for the loving care and support.
In lieu of flowers, Jerry requested donations be made to OLPS Family Life Center and Serra Club.
Pallbearers honored to serve will be Grandsons and Nephews.
