Jack E. Smith

Funeral services for Dr. Jack E. Smith will be at 11:00, Saturday November 23rd at the First united Methodist church of Montgomery, la. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 Friday November 22nd at the First United Methodist church of Montgomery. Officiating will be Dr. Jimmie Walker and Rev. Dee Ann Johnson. Burial will follow at the Mount Zion cemetery under the direction of Southern funeral home.

Dr. Jack E. Smith was a graduate of Atlanta high school, Northwestern State University (receiving both his undergraduate and masters degrees), and the University of Arkansas receiving his doctorate in Educational Administration. He also completed post doctoral studies at the University of North Texas. He taught and coached at Montgomery High School and Verda High School. He was also the principal at Neville High School in Monroe. He had a passion for gospel music and was a founding member with the Pine Ridge Quartet for 65 years.

Jack was a loving and Godly husband, father, and grandfather. He was also a coach, a counselor, a teacher, a college professor, a principal, a superintendant, and a Vice President of a college. Education was his career passion and he spent over 46 years doing what he loved. He also was a proud veteran who served in the US Army as a Troop Information and Education Specialist. He was a 50 year Master Mason and was past master of Montgomery Lodge No. 168 in Montgomery. He has been a great influence in the lives of many. He had a love for everyone he met. He loved the outdoors and especially fishing with friends and family in the nearby lakes and rivers.

He enjoyed sports, especially LSU and Arkansas football games on Saturday.

Dr. Smith was born in Atlanta, Louisiana on March 13, 1932 and passed away on November 20, 2013 at Grace Home at 81 surrounded by his loving family, He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Zula and John Bunyon Smith; his brother Glen Smith, and his sister, Carol Smith Davidson.

He is survived by his wife, Geneva Garner Smith of Montgomery; son, John O. Smith and wife Lisa and their daughters Ashley, Lindsey, and Haley of Midland, Michigan; daughter Jeannine Smith Kessinger and husband Kris and their daughters Alyson and Lindley of Aledo, Texas. Niece, Debbie Smith Worley and husband Mike of West Monroe; great-niece Emily Durham Wilhite and husband Blake and their daughter Olivia of Monroe.

He is also survived by his brothers in Christ ….Clyce Lingenfelter, Owen Jordan, and Paul Shows of the Pine Ridge Quartet which he proudly sang the lead for since 1948…. And, he will now be joining the other quartet members in Heaven that went on before him…. Kenneth Brady, Buddy King, J.E. Garner, and J.L. Waites…. what a "Glorious Day" that will be.

Pallbearers will be Kris Kessinger, Gil Harrison, James Otis Garner, Willis Guillory, Benny Smith, Mike Worley, Frank Bandy, and Rayburn Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Harrison, George Davis, Jerry Ganey, Carlos, Brady, Bernell Vercher, Orville Spikes, Leo Shelton, Dr. Mike Redmond, Johnny Garner, Dr. Paul C. Davis, Dr. John Davis, Robert Howell, Jerry T. Smith, Robbie McMellon, Glen Guillory, Mac Guillory, and E.B. Davidson.

The family would like to thank his cardiologist Dr. Paul C. Davis, his family doctor Dr. Mark Shelton, his home caregiver Karen Davis, and his special nurse Mary Green as well as Grace Home of Alexandria Louisiana for their care, compassion and kindness shown to our father and family during this difficult time.
