James L. Haynes, Jr.

Memorial services for James L. Haynes, Jr. will be at 10:30 am Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Alexandria, with Pastor Don Thompson officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 am Saturday until time for the memorial service.

James L. Haynes, Jr., 94, passed away July 16, 2014 at Grace Home in Cabrini Hospital.

He is survived by his daughters Linda Haynes Aymond (Jimmy); Nancy Haynes Klaver (Rick); grandchildren, Rebecca and Christopher and one great grandson, Everett.

He was a native of Monroe. At the age of 17 in 1939 he joined the Army Air Corps at Barksdale AFB. He was in the 27th Bomber Group; from there he served his country traveling to many parts of the country over 30 years of service. He was a survivor in World War II and walked the Batann Death March following 3 ½ years as a P.O.W. Many called him "Sarg". After his service years, he worked for Weeks Supply in Pineville for 11 ½ years and retired again in 1981 and continued his home in Alexandria. He also volunteered at St. Frances Cabrini Hospital for 20 years. He was a member of Horseshoe Drive Baptist Church. He was a Christian, loved the Lord, deeply loved and provided well for his family. Everyone who met Jim liked or fell in love with his kind and gentle and loving nature.
