John Charles "Charlie" Burden, 91, of Fort Worth, Texas, previously of Alexandria, La., passed away on Friday, November 9, 2012 at Baylor Healthcare Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
Born at Woodstock Plantation in Baton Rouge, La., on May 29, 1921, Mr. Burden was a graduate of LSU Baton Rouge receiving his B.A. in Business Administration. He graduated from LSU Law School in 1948 and practiced law with the firm of Peterman, Gravel, Downs and Burden in Alexandria.
He served with the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper from 1942 - 1946 being honorably discharged with the rank of Captain.
Mr. Burden was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity, Kiwanis Club, Masonic Order, the Episcopal Church, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War.
He will be remembered for his love, laughter and joy of life.
Mr. Burden was preceded in death by his parents John Charles Burden and Penelope Kilgore Burden, sisters Nell Burden Noland and Mitzi Burden Singletary, wife, Suzanne Gartner Burden of Fort Worth.
He is survived by children: Julie Burden of Madisonville, Eileen Burden Arsenault (Paul) of Naples, Florida, John Charles Burden, III (Jack) of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Louise B. Whatley (Vance) of Conroe, Texas, Nell B. Cook (Steve) of Boyce.
Stepsons Gary B. Smith of Fort Worth, Texas, Larry Ragan (Laura) of Santa Barbara, California.
Julia Peterman Burden, the mother of his children.
Grandchildren: Leon Jules Impastato of Covington, Julia Peterman ("J.P.") Impastato Breve' (Bart) of Madisonville, Molly Cook Britt (Jeb) of Alexandria, Virginia, Louise Cook Cashion (Ben) of Fayetteville, Arkansas Katherine Jane ("Katie") Cook of Denver, Colorado; Step Grandchildren: Suzanne Smith of Fort Worth, Texas, Walker Ragan of Santa Barbara, California; Great Grandchildren: Alice Eileen Breve', Julia Burden Breve' and Beck Albright Cashion.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held in Fort Worth, Texas. Arrangements by Robinson, Mueller and Harper in Fort Worth.
