John Dorrah Monette

John Dorrah Monette, 84, of Pineville Louisiana, entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 after a lengthy and courageous battle with heart disease.

Born on August 1, 1927 in Baton Rouge, his family moved to Shreveport when he was 12, where he was a graduate of Byrd High School. John went on to attend Centenary College and Louisiana State University. He was a Mason and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in Europe. He was an employee of Pan American Engineers for nearly 55 years where he served as a dedicated engineering designer, a certified bridge inspector, and was a member of NICET. He was considered the company's archivist because he was familiar with so many of their engineering projects throughout the years. The City of Pineville employees called him "Mr. Pineville" because of his dedicated work with their engineering projects. His interest in research, history, and genealogy were valuable assets to his employer, the local community, and extended family.

John was a charter member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church and served as a chairman of the building committee, vestry member, and Jr. Warden as well as a member of the Brotherhood of St. Andrews. John was a man of deep faith. He was a talented craftsman who enjoyed cabinet making and photography. In recent years, John and his wife Sara were very active members of the Cenla Daylily Society and traveled throughout the region attending garden tours and conventions.

John Monette was preceded in death by his parents, Laura Perreand Monette and Arthur G. Monette of Shreveport, and a brother Louis Gayle Monette of Sauk City, Wisconsin.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sara Lemmons Monette, two sons, Michael A. Monette of Covington and Matthew E. Monette (wife Erinn) of Cincinnati, two daughters, Martha M. Terrell of Knoxville and Marie E. Monette of Dallas. He was blessed with four grandchildren, John Terrell, James Terrell, Katie Monette, and Foster Monette. He is also survived by a twin brother, David O. Monette, of Victoria,Texas and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Pineville, Louisiana on Saturday, September 21st, from 4:00 - 9:00 pm.

Funeral Services will be held at Saint Michael's Episcopal Church, 500 Edgewood Drive, Pineville, Louisiana on Sunday, September 22nd at 3 pm with Father George Gennuso officiating. Grandson John T. Terrell will serve as crucifer. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park in Pineville.

Pallbearers include; Michael Monette, Matthew Monette, James Terrell, Lee Newman, Cliff Bolen, Chris Hazel, Charles Roland, and Tom David, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers include; Marvin Lemmons, Jr., Bill Roland, the employees of Pan American Engineers, and the members of the Brotherhood of St. Andrews.
