Funeral Services for Robert Ross, Sr. will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2014 in the chapel of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Barker and Rev. Charles Hutzler officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
Robert Ross, Sr., 97, of Dry Prong passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Regency House.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Ada H. Ross; his mother Anna B. Mullen; three brothers: Albert Shaw, Jr., Charles Shaw, and J.V. Shaw; and two sisters Gladys Reynolds and Vada Lou Lundy.
Rob was a military man all of his life, he started out in the National Guard; went to war with the United States Army and became a Veteran of WWII; he later retired from the United States Air Force after 23 years of service. His duty to his country didn't stop there, he worked civil service in the commissary for several years until retiring a second time for good. Rob loved gardening and working in his yard. He and his wife spent most of their retirement traveling in their R.V. with their motor home group all over the country.
Those left to cherish his memories include his children: Robert Ross, Jr. and his wife Bonnie of Dry Prong, Dan Ross and his wife Candace of Friendswood, TX, Nancy Williams of Tioga; his grandchildren: Lisa Dowdall and her husband Tom of Madison, MS, Jason Ross and his wife Angela of Dry Prong, Amber Taylor and her husband Josh of Alexandria, Travis Ross of Beaumont, TX, Ben Ross and his wife Nancy of Friendswood, TX, John Ross and his wife Jenny of Cordova, TN; his great grandchildren: Jake Penningtom and his wife Kendal, Tanner Pennington, Olivia Pennington, Noah Hively, and Natalie Ross; two sisters: Bessie Oxley of Shreveport and Bertha Patelis of Dry Prong; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers honored to serve will be Jason Ross, Travis Ross, Ben Ross, John Ross, Jake Pennington, and Tanner Pennington.
Honorary Pallbearer will be Noah Hively.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Regency House and Gamble Hospice for the care and compassion they showed Mr. Ross.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to St. Jude Children's' Hospital at 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
