A Memorial Service for Virginia Ruth Velona will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2013 in the chapel of John Kramer & Son with Rev. Ross Ford officiating.
Virginia Ruth Velona, 91, of Alexandria, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Lexington House.
Virginia is preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Walter D. Velona; her sister Barlice Adamson.
Virginia traveled all over the United States and Central America during World War II, accompanying her husband while he worked various military contracts. After her travels, Virginia settled as a house wife and earned a Master's Desgree in Library Science. She was a High School teacher and a Librarian, and retired as a Librarian from the Public Library in Montgomery, Alabama. She was also a Hostess in the Washington, D.C. area between 1945 and 1970.
Virginia is survived by her son, John Velona and his wife Claudia Ruth of Lecompte; her grandson Christopher Thomas Velona of Raleigh, NC; her sister Jean Saltzman Wood of Roanoke, AL; her niece Charlotte Wood Cowan and husband Bob and their son Chad of Pittsburgh, PA; and her nephew Walter Wood of Wedowee, AL; along with numerous nieces and nephews by marriage.
Interment will follow at a later date in Virginia's home town of LaGrange, Georgia.
