Woodrow Wilson Walker

Graveside services for Woodrow Wilson Walker ("Woody"), 81, of Spring, Texas and formerly of the Poland community, will be held at 4:00 p.m, on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at Pine Grove Cemetery at Ruby, Louisiana, with visitation to be held at 2:30 p.m. at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Pineville, Louisiana, prior to the service.

Woody was born in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, on December 30, 1931, the son of Ruby Madden Walker and Philip Porter Walker, and he died on Thursday, October 3, 2013 in Houston, Texas.

He was a Veteran who served in the Korean conflict in the 1950's and was employed by AT&T (formerly Western Electric) in Houston for many years before his retirement. He traveled frequently to teach telecommunications classes and also performed work involving communication with the deaf, installed the communication system for the 'bubble boy' in Houston, and worked on NASA projects. He was interested in all aspects of electronics, including computers, cameras, and telephone technology and he enjoyed traveling, riding motorcycles, camping, genealogy, reading and, most of all, staying in touch with his friends by computer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Bessie Brister Walker, brothers, Wallace Walker, Jimmy Walker, and an unnamed infant brother, and a step-daughter, Darlene Kurchak.

He was survived by his wife, Catherine Walker, two daughters, Gayle Walker and Kellie Walker Hiett, two sons, Mike Walker and Mark Walker and wife, Patsy, a step-son, Charles Owens and wife, Christina, a number of grandchildren, including four-year old David (the light of his life for the last several years), a brother, Col. Sam Walker, and his wife, Errol, a sister, Vera Walker Verdel, and her husband, Art, and many cousins and other relatives and friends.
