John Roy Wheeler Obituary
John Roy Wheeler passed away at his home in Garberville on August 10, 2014. He was born December 23,1938 in St. Marys Hospital, Walla Walla Washington. John graduated from Mt. Shasta High School here in California and upon graduating, joined the US Navy. While in the Navy , John was able to travel the world: this included two tours on the river patrol boats in Vietnam. Following retirement from the Navy, John moved to Garberville where he held multiple jobs including superintenate at Benbow Golf Course. In John's free time he was a volunteer firefighter, volunteer at the Healy Senior Center, enjoyed all sporting events from youth to college, and even spent time as the president of the Southern Humboldt Youth Football while his grandsons played from A to AAA. He also loved to spend time at his son-in-law's cabin where he would hunt, fish, cut firewood, and most of all relax. John was known as a Jack of All Trades: he could help fix your car or make you a walking cane, the latter of which he had an impressive collection. And we shall not forget that John was a huge dog and bird lover, always having pets and almost never leaving the house without one resting inside of his sweater while cruising his scooter throughout Garberville. John will be deeply missed by family and friends. He is survived by his daughter Rosie and her husband Jon Moore; grandsons William and AJ; mother L. Yvonetta Wheeler; wife Rosemary; her son Patrick; sister-in-law Paav; brothers: Stanley Wheeler, James R. Wheeler; sisters: Joyce Harrel, Bonnie Rodgers, Shelda Wheeler; sister-in- law Teressa Wheeler and many more surviving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife Tia Wheeler and father James Roy Wheeler. A memorial service will be held at the Healy Senior Center in Redway, on Sept. 20, 2014 at 1:00 pm. You can make a donation to the Healy Senior Center of Southern Humboldt, P.O. Box 1849, 456 Briceland Road, Redway. Arrangements are under the care of Goble's Fortuna Mortuary.
