Laura Lee Griffith Trenfel passed away June 18, 2014. She was born August 19, 1965 in Fortuna, Calif. Laura spent her elementary years in Trinidad, Calif. Her family moved to the Garberville area in 1977 where Laura finished her school years at South Fork High School. When she was about 12, Laura and her best friend, Martha Farris, joined the little "Sunshine Girls" group. They would dress in pretty little, lacy dresses, meet for tea and cookies and pick wildflowers. Laura enjoyed the outdoors dearly. She hiked, picked wildflowers every day, collected neat rocks and driftwood she'd drag home. What a beautiful yard she had. Her last bouquet of wildflowers was found in her saddlebags and they will be cherished forever by her sister, Peggy Sarver. Laura moved to San Diego, Calif. where she met her husband, Bill Trenfel. They had a wonderful son, Bill Trenfel, but siding their differences, Laura moved on. She became a model and clothing executive. Chevrolet discovered her and she was Chevy Corvette's top spokesmodel for 1994 and 1995. During that time she was noticed and played in several bit parts in the sitcom Renegade and Silk Stockings. She liked acting but she missed home. She moved back to Southern Humboldt 1999-2000 and worked for K-HUM in Ferndale as a roving reporter and sales rep, where she met her soulmate Kavin Hughes. He worked construction out at the Cove and they fell in love and had their son, John Wayne. They have lived in the Cove for the past 10 years. Her sister Peggy said, "When I see a flower, wild or not, I can't help but see her smiling with a fist full of flowers. Laura Lee was preceded in death by her father, James Griffith; her grandparents, Clyde and Josie McNew; uncles Calvin McNew and Alfred McNew; and her brother, Johnnie James Lewis. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Geneva and Rex Allen; sister, Peggy Sarver and brother-in-law Tom Sarver, nieces Nina McCue and family, Trisha Mitburg and family; Isla Sarver and Tommy Sarver; sister Sharon and Bob Mathews; nephews Eugene Hendershot and family, Tracy Roby and family, and Shane Pickle; brothers, Michael W.
