Lucille Esget 6/22/1920- 12/23/2013 Lucille was a South Dakota native who came out to California during the war. She worked at a radio tube plant in San Mateo and served as a USO hostess in San Francisco. She and her husband, Jack, were married in San Mateo in 1942 and, having returned to South Dakota after the war, Lucille taught school there. Moving to Eureka in 1959, Lucille got her California teaching credential at HSU. She taught in the McKinleyville School District for 26 years. Lucille is probably best remembered as a Kindergarten teacher at McKinleyville Elementary School. After retiring in 1983, Lucille travelled the world, was a member of various clubs, and played golf with her husband, Jack. She played Tuesday Bridge with very close friends in Eureka and played cards with an Arcata group that was together for more than forty years. At home, Lucille was happiest when she was feeding wild birds and caring for her plants. Lucille is survived by her husband, Jack, son Jim, daughter Janet, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 4 pm Monday December 30, 2013 at Sanders Funeral Home. Please sign the guestbook at www.times-standard.com and click on obits.
