SOUTH BARRE - The committal and graveside service with full military honors for Col. Herbert Gage Hunt Jr., USAR Ret., of the Holden Road, were accorded Friday, June 28, 2013, at 9 a.m. in the Waterbury Center Cemetery. He died June 24, 2013, at the Mayo Nursing Home in Northfield.
The Guest Book is expired.
The Rev. Albert Collins, pastor emeritus of the Websterville Baptist Church and family friend, led the service.
The volleys were fired and "Taps" were sounded. The flag was folded and presented to Herb's eldest son, Herbert Gage Hunt III, by the Funeral Honors Team of the Vermont Army National Guard at Camp Johnson in Colchester.
Herb's life was celebrated at a remembrance ceremony on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Mayo Health Care in Northfield, where he and Violet had resided. The Rev. Collins conducted that service also.
As a Master Mason, Herb's life was honored with the Masonic Memorial Service Thursday evening at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre, by his home lodge, Winooski Masonic Lodge #49 of Waterbury. The Worshipful Master was Past Master P. Howard Flanders and Past Master Willis Morse was Chaplain. Fellow masons were in attendance from Wyoming Masonic Lodge #80 of Plainfield, Summitt Masonic Lodge #104 of Williamstown and Granite Masonic Lodge #35 of Barre.
