James “Jim” Paul Berkey was born May 17, 1922 to Floyd and Lida Berkey in Haxtun, CO. He graduated in 1941 from Haxtun High School. After graduation he worked in Denver at the Western Electric Co. until enlisting in the Marines in 1942. He served his tour of duty during WWII in Bougainville and Guadalcanal. He returned home in 1946 to marry his high school sweetheart, Helen Kautter. Together they built a house and had 2 daughters. In 1954 they relocated to Longmont and started Berkey Plumbing & Heating. In 1962, Jim started at Rocky Flats and retired from there in 1985. He was a strong caring man, dedicated to making a great life for his family. He is survived by his wife Helen, daughters Lynn (John) Stevenson and Mary Daley, grandchildren Aaron (Shannon) Martenson, Corey (Julie) Martenson, Carri Daley and Kimberly Daley, great grandchildren Tyler Daley, Scott and Maddie Martenson, Jami Daley, and Matthew Daley. He is also survived by one sister and several nieces and nephews. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
