Roger W. Brockway Obituary
Roger Brockway, aged 88, died peacefully at the Benedictine Health Center in Duluth, Minnesota on May 25, 2014. He was born June 2, 1925 in Madison, Minnesota the son of Parker and Ethel Brockway. Roger proudly served in the United States Army during WWII where he was gravely wounded in battle two days after D-Day. After a prolonged hospital convalescence, he went on to study and graduate from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1953 and become a general practioner. He practiced medicine in Grand Rapids, Minnesota from 1953 to 1970 then moved to Longmont, Colorado where he practiced from 1970 to 1995. An ardent outdoorsman and gifted athlete, Roger enjoyed cycling and skiing and spent many happy hours on the Colorado slopes, both on a bike and as a member of various ski patrols. Roger loved birds and animals, especially his beloved dogs, and was a docent at the Denver Zoo, often taking part in zoo sponsored adventure tours to exotic and far off places such as Costa Rica and Africa. He is survived by his son, Dr. David Brockway and his wife, Connie, of Minneapolis and daughter, Anne Hovde and her husband, Denny, of Duluth, Minnesota and special friends Ed, Elaine and Becky Lozada of Longmont, Colorado, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by friends and family. At Roger's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. His favorite charities included The Longmont Humane Society in Longmont, CO, The International Wolf Center in Ely, MN and The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, CO. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are thanked and respectfully requested to do so at their own discretion, guided by their personal beliefs.
