ALSBURY, James John Jim was born in New Westminster on December 3, 1922. He passed away with his family by his side on March 9, 2013 at the age of 90. Jim was a member of Cornfield Band from an early age playing the flute and piccolo. He spent most of his life in Burnaby, graduating from Burnaby South High School. He was an army veteran of the Second World War and was in Holland during the liberation. After the war he was married and he and his wife, Marion ran a cut flower nursery for 10 years. He then worked for F. Drexel Co. of Vancouver as a customer Service Manager until he retired in 1985. He loved the Boy Scout Movement and spent many years as a scout leader in Burnaby. He and Marion loved to travel and as a result have seen a lot of the world. A holiday home was built on Galiano Island in 1969 where they have lived for the last 20 years. His survivors are loving wife Marion, daughter Diane Klaui (Peter) of Galiano; son Jim (Lois) of Comox; and son Bob of Galiano. Three grandchildren; Brooke (Mark) of Whitehorse; Michelle (David) of Darcy and Mike (Ellamere) of Salmon Arm. Three great-grandchildren; Seth, Cove, Linaya. God daughter Janet McMurray of Surrey. In-laws Jean Burns of Sidney, Jim Burns (Vera) of Kelowna and Bob Burns of Brooks Alberta. Life long friends Rod McGeachie of Victoria, Larry and Pat Cole of Saltspring and Aub and Irene Rundle Woolcock of Pender Island. Many thanks to doctors and staff of Saanich Peninsula Hospital, especially Dr. Marsh. Many thanks to staff of Galiano Health Care Centre, especially Colette.
