CICERI, Jean Mary Jean Mary Ciceri passed away peacefully on September 1st, 2013 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria at the age of 94 years. Jean was born in Cardiff, Wales on May 25, 1919 and was brought to Victoria as an infant with her parents John Cuthbert Ciceri and Eleanor Mary Ciceri (nee Jones). A sister soon joined the family when Veronica (Bunny) was born in 1920. The girls enjoyed a happy childhood in Victoria and both attended St. Anne's Academy. At the outbreak of World War 2 Jean decided to become a nurse and graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital of Nursing in 1942. She served as a nurse in the Canadian Armed Forces, at a hospital in Basingstoke, England during the war. Following the war she continued her nursing training, specializing in psychiatric nursing. In the 1950s she joined the Canadian Air Force as a nurse and pursued extensive training, including being certified as a flight nurse in the United States Air Force School of Aviation Medicine. Later in her civilian career Jean earned advanced degrees from the University of Toronto and Boston University and taught nursing at the University of Toronto and Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. She also worked for the Ontario Ministry of Health. Upon retirement she decided to return to her beloved Victoria and enjoyed time with her sister Bunny and her Ciceri cousins, tending her beautiful patio flower garden at her Garnett Rd. condo, and traveling. She also carried out extensive genealogy research into her Ciceri and Jones ancestors. In the last 10 years Jean was happy residing at Berwick House on Shelbourne St. Jean was a lovely, intelligent and charming lady. She leaves behind those of us who will miss her smile and quiet chuckle - her nieces Mary Orr and Nina Orr Kennedy (husband William H. Kennedy) and her cousins Elizabeth Ciceri and Shirley Ciceri. She was pre-deceased by her sister Bunny (Veronica) Ciceri Orr in 2011. Jean's relatives would like to extend a special appreciation to the staff at Berwick House on Shelbourne Road for their love and care of Jean in her final years. At her request Jean's ashes will be placed in the Veteran's Wall of Remembrance at First Memorial Cremation Garden, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria in a small ceremony on Saturday September 7th at 10am to be followed by a reception.
