HOBSON, Mary Kathleen Born: July 15, 1932 Died: February 5, 2014 Mary was born in Red Deer, Alberta to parents Kay and Harry Jacobsen. She died at home under the loving care of her husband Robert after a total of 60 yrs together including a 2-year engagement and 58-year marriage. Attending to her in her last months were her children Cheryl Ann Hobson, a practising nurse practitioner on the Peninsula and Richard Alan Hobson, a retired RCMP S/Sgt. Mary is survived by two brothers, Ken and Aubrey Jacobsen, both retired from the armed forces. She has four grandchildren, Doctor Neil Hobson, Doctor Colin Hobson, Trevor Barchen-Hobson attending University of Victoria, and Shavonne Barchen-Hobson completing Grade 12. Mary has travelled though out England, Germany, France, Canada, United States, Mexico, Cuba, and Asia. Prior to he illness she spent winters in Southern States, and summers with her husband at their summer home on Lake Cowichan at Honeymoon Bay. Mary was originally a Post Mistress at Lake Cowichan and there she met her husband Robert who was also in the RCMP. They were married in an RCMP ceremony at Mesachie Lake in 1956. She became the second RCMP member in many of their earlier postings in BC assisting her husband with Matron and escort duties, answering the door and telephone, and dispatching on the police radio. Her ashes will be returned to Red Deer, where she spent her early school years with her cousins from the Bickford clan. Mary passed away with dementia and breast cancer.
