Freddie E. Franck

Freddie E. Franck, of Florence, Ala., entered the kingdom of God on March 26, 2014. He was 78. Born Sept. 15, 1935, to Hector and Rose Franck, he was a member of both St. Joseph and St. Michael's Catholic Church. After graduating from Coffee High School in 1955, he proudly served his country as a soldier in the United States Army. Between 1955 and 1962, he was stationed both state-side and in Germany. After his service, he was employed by Ed Briggs Mechanical and then would retire from TVA.

Freddie was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union 760 for 52 years where he spent 20 years as a plumbing instructor, a third and fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3989, and a former Boy Scout Troop 27 Leader where he received the Silver Beaver Award in 1994, which is the highest honor awarded to troop leaders. He was the past president of the Mended Hearts and volunteered as a reading aid to teach adults to read.

Freddie is survived by Mary Louise Durham Franck, his loving wife of 53 years; children, Derick (Sharon), Michael, John (Leigh Ann), Dorothy Putnam (Jason), and Pauline Martin (Christian); grandchildren, Andrew (Jordan), Brittney, Connor, Brandon, Caroline, Lauren, and Sarah; brother, Hector A. Franck Jr.; and sister, Mary Ann Tidwell.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Franck, Connor Franck, Brandon Jackson, Bobby Dolan, Miles Sledge, and Bud Hendon.

Visitation will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Florence, Ala., today from 4-6 p.m. with a rosary dedication to follow. Funeral services will also be held at St. Joseph on Saturday, March 29, at 10 a.m. with Father Roy Runkle, Father Edward Markley, O.S.B., and Deacon Bob Martin are officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
