George L. Berry

George Lorton Berry was born Oct. 13, 1923, in Wayne County, Tenn., the son of the late George Washington and Grace Warrington Berry. In addition to his parents, Mr. Berry was preceded in death by a son, Stanley Berry; two brothers, Warrington Berry and Eugene Berry; two sisters, Audrey Sowden and Peggy Grandinetti. Mr. Berry died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Wayne County Nursing Home in Waynesboro, Tenn. at the age of 89 years, 3 months, 30 days. Mr. Berry, a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy, was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He was retired from General Motors as a die welder.

He is survived by his wife, Ida Pearl Montgomery Berry, of Lutts, Tenn.;

three sons, Stephen Berry and wife, Suzan, and George Lee Berry, all of Iron City, Tenn., John Thomas Berry and wife, Heather, of Swartz Creek, Mich.; two daughters, Debra Grabenhorst, of Collinwood, Tenn., and Brenda Boyd and husband, Gary, of Florence, Ala.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Berry, of Florence, Ala.; two sisters, Joyce MacQuarrie, of Nashville, Tenn., and Kate Hamilton, of Waynesboro, Tenn.; several nieces; and nephews.

Memorial services with military honors will be Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel, Collinwood, Tenn., with Keith Montgomery officiating.
