Terry G. Hayes

Terry G. Hayes, age 66, of Florence, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2014 at his residence after an extended illness. Mr. Hayes was a residence of Lauderdale County, retired from UPS after 35 years of dedicated service, a member of the American Legion, and a member of Bethel Berry Church of Christ. Visitation will be on Saturday, June 21, 2014 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. with funeral services to begin at 2 p.m. at Killen Church of Christ. Brother Jerry Campbell will be officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery with military funeral honors. He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Hayes and brother-in-law Ronnie Brewer. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Donna Gail (Medley) Hayes, one son, Justin Hayes and wife Betsy; daughters Sabrina Davis and husband Dale, and Ashley Bunch and husband Robbie; mother, Lucille Hayes, all of Florence, Alabama; Grandchildren include Will Davis, Preslie and Jackson Bunch and Saylor and Davie Hayes; sister, Donna Brewer; brothers, Jeff Hayes, Randy Hayes and wife Carolyn; and Uncle, Jack and Debbie Hayes of Pell City, Alabama.

Mr. Hayes was a Veteran of Vietnam and completed his tour of duty as a Marine having received the National Defense Service Medal, The Purple Heart, The Bronze Star as well as other commendations for his service. Mr. Hayes was well known in the community for his service as a local driver for UPS and his devotion to Wilson High School Athletics. Mr. Hayes stood for his country during Vietnam and stood for his family and friends during every stage of his life. While he was also known for being a "one of a kind" skilled story teller he had a distinct love for people and taught his children to love and express their love and left this life surrounded by his closest friends and family whom he loved.

Pallbearers will include Charles Burchell, Bill Morris, Gary "Fudd" Smith, Ray "Big Will" Willis, Scott Brown, Steve Abston, Trey Behel and Jimmy Wear. Honorary pallbearers include Adam Burchell, Josh "Chubby" Kelly, Will Davis, Tucker Buchanan, Grady Stutts, and all employees of the United Parcel Service. The family wishes to thank Mary Kehoe, Kelli Jo Vali, and Sandy Brown for their care and compassion shown to their husband and father during his illness.
