Mr. Walter "Dudley" Kilpatrick, 78, of Tuscumbia, left this world to go home Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at 10:02 a.m. at Russellville Hospital. Visitation will be Friday evening, July 19, from 5-7 at Colbert Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be at the funeral home Saturday morning at 10. Brother T. A. Duke will officiate the service with the Masonic rites following. Mr. Kilpatrick will be laid to rest at Gravel Hill Cemetery in the Mt. Star Community near his parents and sons.
Dudley was born in Franklin County in 1935. A longtime resident, he moved to the Tuscumbia area in 1981. He was a member of Hook Street Baptist Church in Tuscumbia and a member of Masonic Shrine Lodge No. 503 In Sheffield.
As a Shriner, Dudley was a road runner logging in over 100 trips taking children to Greenville, N.C. He said this was the greatest blessing he ever received and felt he finally found his calling from God.
Dudley lived a full blessed life. He was a school bus driver, and an auto and diesel mechanic. He had his A&P license for aircraft maintenance. He was a pilot, scuba diver, photographer and fisherman. He also worked with NASA helping to build the Thor missile. Later in life, he worked for TVA and then Reynolds, where he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lora Kilpatrick; two brothers, Troy and James; wife, Betty Jo Hitt; and two sons, Michael and Wally Kilpatrick.
He is survived by his wife, Autry Lee Kilpatrick; daughters, Gail Kilpatrick Rollins (David), of Hodges, Ala., Kathy Kilpatrick Hall (Duane), of Russellville, Ala., and Fran Davis (Russ), of Wonder Lake, Ill.; grandchildren, Shelana Luck, of Phil Campbell, Julia, Josh, Jessica and Sarah Rollins, of Hodges, Ala., Michael Hall (Lori), of Ford City, Bryan Hall, of Tuscumbia, Joyce O'Callahan (Mike), of The Woodlands, Texas, and Angela Hartfield (Tom), of Wonder Lake, Ill.; and ten great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David Rollins, Duane Hall, Josh Rollins, Michael Hall, Bryan Hall and Shane Scott.
