Longtime Vallejo resident, JT Crider was born in Cardwell, MO. He was the son of Gertrude and Vordell Crider. With the outbreak of WWII, he enlisted as a Private in the U.S. Marine Corps in October 1939. He completed basic training at the Fleet Marine Force, Marine Corps Base, San Diego, CA. He was deployed to the Pacific Theater in 1940 and served in the 6th Defense Battalion, FMF, during the battle of Midway. He returned as patient to the U.S. Navy Hospital, New River, NC in 1943. It was love at first sight when he met his future wife, Margaret, then serving in the Nurses Corps at the Navy hospital. They courted for two weeks and were married in November 1943. They were married for nearly 68 years. Following his honorable discharge as a Sergeant in March 1945, JT and his wife moved to California, settling first in the Bakersfield area and then moving to Vallejo. JT worked briefly at the C&H Sugar Refinery in Crockett and then was employed at Mare Island Naval Shipyard as an Electronics Mechanic in Shop 67 (Bldg. 866), retiring in 1983. JT was a humble man, seldom talking about his time on Midway Island and his many accolades received during his employment at Mare Island.
JT was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He always had a unique sense of humor and made us all laugh with his antics and listening to his favorite country western songs and videos. He enjoyed being with his family above all else. He was a member of American Legion Post 550 and the VFW. He loved baseball; the SF Giants were his favorite team. He was also a dedicated supporter of the Wilson Baseball Park in the 1950's and served as a coach for many of the young teams.
JT is preceded by his wife, Margaret; and brother, Willard.
He is survived by his three daughters, Kathleen Boman (Kenneth), Judy Lindberg (Dennis) and Ellen Wolfram (Jimmy); granddaughters, Angela Obrist (Paul), Erin Bjugan (Cody), Kristi Wolfram and Traci Gray (Russell); grandson, David Hill (Jessica); 12 great-grandchildren, Camber, Courtney, Tayson, Nate and Shania Obrist, Addison and Stella Hill, Bailey and Madelynn Bjugan; Aidan and Kaylin (Wolfram) Flores, and Payton (Wolfram) Gray; cousins, Thad Wooten, Rita Rowland and Bill Craig; his extended family, with care and support provided in Dad's last several years by his step-granddaughter, Debby Boman-Lawrence; step-grandchildren, Sandra Craig (Stephen), Holly Boman and Kenneth Boman Jr. (Christina); and his step great-grandchildren, Natalie and Julie Craig and Alana and Kai Boman.
JT is greatly missed by all of his family and those that he touched throughout his long life.
