1925 - 2014 Notice Condolences
Feb. 25, 1925 - March 25, 2014

Lawrence Andrew "Laurie" Lindsay died peacefully at home in Benicia on March 25. He was born in Santa Rosa, the son of Andrew and Ruth Lindsay. Laurie graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1943. He joined the US Marine Corps in June of that year and while serving in the USMC, attended UC Berkeley graduating with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He later went back to UC Berkeley and in 1949 received a Masters in Business Administration.

He served in the USMC until the end of World War II and was recalled to active duty in 1950 as a 1st Lieutenant. Laurie was wounded and received a purple heart in 1951 while leading a patrol in Korea. While At Berkeley he met his future wife, Rita. They married in 1949. In addition to Rita, Laurie is survived by sons, Dennis (Mara), Douglas (Linda), David (Ann) and daughter, Lori; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, as well as many fond friends.

Laurie worked for C&H Sugar Company in San Francisco and Crockett for 34 years, retiring in 1983. Laurie and Rita and their young family moved to Vallejo in 1954. At C&H he held many positions, serving the last 12 years as the Crockett Refinery Manager. After retirement from C&H, for many years, Laurie was a volunteer tax preparer working with seniors and disadvantaged. Laurie was a past member of the Crockett Lions Club, the Vallejo Elks and Moose, the Sons of Italy, the Crockett Gluttons Club and Branch 75 of the Vallejo Sirs. Laurie was an active member of the Napa/ Solano United Way Board of Directors and a member of the 1983/84 Solano County Grand Jury.

After Laurie retired, he and Rita moved to Benicia. Laurie was an avid baseball and football fan and spent many years involved in youth baseball activities. He enjoyed travelling, fishing and the outdoors and spending time at their second home on Cobb Mountain in Lake County.

Laurie always felt that because of his family and friends he was richer than anyone on earth.

Services will be private.
