Philmore Graham was born Aug. 29, 1938, to John Archie Graham and Louise Graham, in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Philmore attended Laurinburg and Lincoln Heights High Schools and was a well-rounded student graduating with a 3.9 grade point average. Philmore continued his education and graduated from Tennessee State University in May, 1962, with Bachelor of Science degrees in mechanical and metallurgical engineering. He later completed graduate studies in material science at UCLA and UC Berkeley.
Philmore was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force and served until August, 1965. In October, 1965, Philmore accepted a position with Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, California, in October, 1965.
Philmore loved working in the community and in 1966, after watching six little boys play football, he started what is now known as the Continental of Omega Boys and Girls Club.
The viewing will take place on Tuesday, June 24, from 12 to 6 p.m., at Friendship Baptist Church in Vallejo. The Wake and Omega Memorial will immediately follow the viewing at 6 p.m. The funeral will take place on Wednesday, June 25, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to "The Philmore and JaMella Graham Scholarship Fund" at any Union Bank.
