C. Russell Hothem
80, of Park Ridge, N.J., died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013. He was born and raised in Bucks Township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Beloved husband of Claire Hothem (nee Stoyko) of 51 years. Devoted father of Thomas E. Hothem (wife, Anne Zanzucchi) of Merced, Calif., and Stuart R. Hothem of Charlotte, N.C. Loving grandfather of Samuel Zanzucchi-Hothem. Dear brother of Florence Griesinger (husband, the late Robert) Columbus, Ohio, Earl L. Hothem (wife, Doris) of Covington, Ga., Bernard L. Hothem of San Antonio, Texas, Velma R. Poland (husband, Donald) of Navarre,, Ohio, Rita Lahmers (husband Jerry)of Newcomerstown, Ohio, Robert D. Hothem (wife, Elaine) of Centerville, Ohio, and the late Irven Hothem; as well as uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Son of the late Earl and Dorothy Hothem, Russell was a graduate of Stone Creek High School and The Ohio State University. A retired school teacher with River Dell Regional High, Oradell, N.J., for 35 years, he was named 1976 Teacher of the Year by the Industrial Arts Education Association of New Jersey. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Ridgewood, NJ, as a longstanding head usher as well as a deacon and member of the Property Committee. He was also a longtime advancement chairman for Boy Scout Troop 80, Park Ridge, N.J., and a driver education teacher at Fair Lawn Driving School.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the First Presbyterian Church, 722 East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood, N.J., 07450, would be appreciated. A memorial service will be held at the church Sunday, Dec. 29. Burial will take place at the Bakersville, Ohio Cemetery at a later date.
