age 78, of Dover, Ohio, formerly of Beech Bottom, W.Va., passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014, at his residence under the care of Community Hospice. With his wife at his side and his family near. Lee was born on Nov. 21, 1935 in Beech Bottom, W.Va., and resided in the Ohio Valley throughout his young life until joining the United States Navy, Lee proudly served aboard the USS New Jersey from 1954 to 1957 as Machinist Mate 2nd Class. He received the National Defense Service Medal. Lee went on to serve as a reservist with the 5th Naval District of Norfolk, Va. After many relocations, he and his family moved to Dover in 1974. He was a carpenter by trade, and ran his own construction company for many years, he loved to work with wood and build furniture. Lee had a love for Aviation and had obtained his personal pilots license in the 1980's, and enjoyed piloting his own plane. He enjoyed camping with his wife, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was the son of the late Oscar Lee and Okla Mae (Hess) Denbow of Wellsburg, WV. In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by his brother, Gilbert "Dwight" Denbow, of Beech Bottom, on June 15, 2014.
Lee is survived by his wife of nearly 60 yrs, Ellen Palmer; four children, Darrell (Jackie) Denbow, Debra (William "Bill") Kleindienst, Douglas (Jill) Denbow, and Dena (Michael) Short, all of Dover, Ohio; five grandchildren, Jason and Nicole (fiance Matt O'Donnell) Denbow, Miranda Denbow, and Nathan and Haley Short; a sister, Lorraine Funkhouser in Suffolk, Va.; a brother, Kenneth Denbow in Wellsburg W.Va., several nieces and nephews, and their faithful pet companion, Payton.
A private family viewing was held at the Chambers Funeral Home in Wellsburg, W.Va. Interment followed at Kadesh Chapel Cemetery, Beech Bottom, W.Va. with the United States Navy represented, A touching eulogy by his friend William (Billy) Short, followed by Taps. Friends may call on the family on Saturday August 2, at the Dover Masonic Lodge, 735 N Wooster Ave, Dover. From 2 to 4 p.m., Lee and his family ask that In lieu of flowers that any contribution be made to support Community Hospice.
