Gerald A. (Jerry) Francis

age 89, of Dublin, passed away Sept. 20, 2013, at Friendship Village of Dublin. He was born to Thomas and Emma (Neiger) Francis. Jerry graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1941. He was an iceman, a machinist, a hydrographer, and a World War II Naval Aviator before becoming a student at The Ohio State University. He received Bachelors and Masters degrees in Mechanical Engineering and was a professional engineer employed at Dow Chemical Company; Skinner Precision Industries; and for over 35 years, Battelle Memorial Institute. Jerry enjoyed a long and happy life with a loving family, a multitude of friends, a challenging career, and productive retirement. A resident of Upper Arlington for over 50 years, he was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, a Franklin County Master Gardener, an Ohio Senior Citizen Hall of Fame inductee, a UA Senior Center and Lifecare Alliance volunteer, a member of The Columbus Optimist Club, an avid fisherman, and an accomplished artist. His son Steve and brother Thomas preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Jane (Graff) Francis of Dublin, Ohio; daughters, Diane (Robert) Hines and Sally (Steven Maheras) Francis, of Upper Arlington, Ohio; grandchildren, Lauren Hines, Anastasia Maheras, and Jay Hines; brother, Glenn Francis of New Philadelphia, Ohio; sister-in-law, Irene Francis of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at a future date.
