age 91, a longtime resident of Arlington, Va., passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013.
Survived by his wife, Mary (married 60 years); his children, Fred (Huntington Beach, Calif.), John (North Potomac, Md.), Kletus (Burke, Va.), Eve (Junction City, Kan.), Germaine Leahy, (Arlington, Va.), Claudia Maloney (Arlington, Va.); his brothers, Thomas (New Philadelphia, Ohio), Robert (Newcomerstown, Ohio), Malcolm (deceased); as well as 14 grandchildren. Born in Cheyenne, Wyo., he grew up in Ohio and graduated from Ohio State University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a MBA in Marketing. John worked as a Chemical Engineer at DuPont in Wilmington, Del. and SOHIO in Cleveland, Ohio and then as an Industrial Economist in the Crops Branch at the U.S. Department of Agriculture retiring after 30 years of service. A true iconoclast, John was passionate about the arts, politics, correct grammar and beautiful women.
A service will be held on Wednesday, June 19 at 11 a.m. at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, 3411 Arlington Blvd., Arlington, Va. Memorial donations may be made to PBS/WETA in Arlington, Va.
