Larry D. McConnell
69, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, after a brief illness. Born April 27, 1944 in Tippecanoe, Ohio, Larry was a 1962 graduate of Lakeland High School. As a young man, he served as a volunteer firefighter and worked at Crosier's saw mill in Tippecanoe. He then worked for 37 years at the former Joy Manufacturing in New Philadelphia. Larry attended First Christian Church in Uhrichsville where he served on the Fellowship Committee. He formerly volunteered at the Twin City Christian Service Center and was a former president of the Claymont Band Parents Organization. Larry enjoyed good food, a good laugh, and a good day at Wheeling. A caring husband and father, he was Sue's constant companion and Shelley's biggest fan.
Larry is survived by his wife, Sue Ellen (Dunlap) McConnell of the home, whom he married on June 27, 1970, and daughter, Shelley McConnell of Akron. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel "Ted" and Ruth (Lee) McConnell; sisters, Virginia Schulz and Margery Norris; brother, Fred McConnell; and mother-in-law, Betty Dunlap. He is also survived by a sister, Sara (George) Basham, and brother, Richard (Shirley) McConnell, all of Tippecanoe, as well as nieces, Kathy Norris, Linda Reese, Judi Schulz, Janine Schulz, Jill Beidenbach, Robin Romshak, Shirley Beckley, and Melinda Hall, and nephews, David Norris, Kenny McConnell, and Mark Basham.
Services for Larry, officiated by Pastor Scott Snyder, will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison.
