Max Albert Hanna
92, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, July 8, 2012 in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia following a sudden decline of health. A son of the late Clarence and Edith (Lloyd) Hanna, Max was born Jan. 6, 1920 at New Philadelphia, Ohio. Max graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1938. Then on Nov. 21, 1941, he entered the United States Army and served during World War II being stationed in the Southern Philippines and Luzon. He received his honorable discharge on Nov. 11, 1945. He worked as an Engineer starting his career with the Pennsylvania Railroad before retiring from Conrail. After retirement Max held various other jobs throughout the area. He was active in his community and various civic organizations. Max was lifetime member of the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 and the New Philadelphia American Legion Post #139. He was a member of the New Philadelphia Masonic Lodge #177, a past president of the Tuscarawas County Historical Society, a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen since 1946, the American Blue Gascon Hound Association; First Christian Church at New Philadelphia and a former member of the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge.
Surviving is his wife, Dorothy Jane (Dessecker) Hanna of the home; four sons, Ronald (Dawn) Hanna of New Philadelphia, Gary (Linda) Hanna of Dover, Dean (Kathy) Hanna of New Philadelphia and Bruce (Beverly) Hanna of Stone Creek; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Max was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Hanna and two brothers, Dale and Clarence "Bud" Hanna.
In keeping with Max's wishes, there will be no public calling hours and a graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Those wishing to do so may send the family a personal condolence and light a candle in remembrance of Max by visiting the funeral home website.
