Dr. Norman W. Jackson, 82
Dr. Norman W. Jackson, 82, passed away peacefully early Thursday afternoon, April 3, 2014 at his home.
Dr. Jackson was born Sept. 19, 1931, in Dover, a son of the late Dr. William J. and Mae Hurst Jackson, and came to the Mahoning Valley in 1973.
He was a 1949 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a 1959 graduate of the Illinois School of Optometry.
Dr. Jackson was one of the first doctors of optometry to be selected to the Gesell Institute of Child Development in New Haven, Connecticut. He was the author of "Understanding Your Child's Mind" and was currently working on another publication about child development.
Norman was a member of Western Reserve Community Church in Boardman. He enjoyed sports and hiking, and spending time with his family and friends.
He leaves his wife of nearly 60 years, Jo Ann, whom he married June 11, 1954; four children, William, Lori, Karen, and Charles; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Dr. Bruce Jackson; and a sister, Dr. Marjorie Rasche, reknowned organist.
Funeral services were held on April 7, 2014 at Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
