93, formerly of West Lafayette died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013 at his Covington Square home in Coshocton. He was born Nov. 10, 1919 in White Eyes Township to the late Otto and Katie (Limbacher) Marhofer. Vearl served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 13, 1941 to Oct. 1, 1945 during World War II achieving the rank of Sergeant in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater where he was awarded three bronze stars plus one bronze star for his participation in the Philippines Liberation. Vearl was a retiree of Clow Water Systems after more than 30 years of employment spending most of that time in the Pipe Shop. In his later years he kept busy working on lawn mowers and appliances.
On Dec. 27, 1946 he married Olive Delores Cain who preceded him in death Feb. 7, 1988. He truly will be missed by his daughter Sherylnn Carnes of West Lafayette; granddaughter Michelle (Dan) Thornsley of Coshocton; two great-grandsons Logan and Dalton Thornsley; two brothers Marion (Betty) Marhofer of Fresno and Lyle (Linda) Marhofer of Sugarcreek; brother- in-law Thurman Cain of Coshocton along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents Vearl was preceded in death by four sisters Wilma Leindecker, Alverta Cain, Arlene Leindecker, an infant baby girl, and a special friend Mildred Wilcox.
In keeping with Vearl's wishes, services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at the Free Funeral Home, Coshocton. Interment will follow at Fairfield Cemetery in West Lafayette. Military Honors will be conducted by the Coshocton County Veterans Council. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday prior to the services at the funeral home.
