Arghnian, Alexander K. WATERVLIET Alexander K. Arghnian, 84, died suddenly on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after being stricken at his home in Watervliet. Born in Meadville, Pa. on December 8, 1929, he was the son of the late Michael Arghnian and Mary Arghnian Damerjian. Al was raised in Detroit, Mich., but while visiting family in Watervliet, he fell in love with Marion Nazarian whom he saw at the Watervliet Pharmacy and they have been happily married for the last 64 years. He was employed as a butcher by the former Grand Cash Market on North Pearl Street in Albany and later by Reliable Brands of Albany and now Green Island where he worked for over 45 years. He also was a bartender at the former Kirker's Restaurant and the Captain's Table both in Latham and was the manager of the Clifton Knolls Country Club. He also assisted his son Michael for the last 22 years at his restaurant, Michael's Pizza in Watervliet making the sauce and meatballs. Al was a member of St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church in Watervliet and cut and marinated the lamb for the Shish Kebab for the annual picnics held on the church grounds. He was a member of the Simonian-Avakian Post in Watervliet. Every Tuesday, he spent the day with his son at the Saratoga Racino playing the horses and spending quality time together. He loved spending time with his family. He is the beloved husband of Marion Nazarian Arghnian; devoted father of Michael (Debi) Arghnian of Cohoes, Ginny (Andrew) Hyra of Brunswick and Rosanne (Matthew) Shufelt of Watervliet; proud grandfather of Michael Arghnian, Jr., Andrea (Paul) Aubin, Tanya Lynn Hyra, Andrew (Caitlin) Hyra, Alexander Hyra, Alexis Shufelt and Matthew Shufelt, Jr.; great- grandfather of Ciarah Arghnian and Nolan and Grant Hyra; brother of Roxie Ciccarelli of Detroit and the late Margaret Derderian. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 9:45 a.m. from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church, Watervliet. Interment Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands.
