David P. Whalen Sr. Obituary
Whalen, David P. Sr. ALBANY David Paul Whalen Sr., 83, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at St. Peter's Hospice Inn. Born on June 19, 1931 in Albany, he was the son of the late Francis and Viola Whalen. He was born and raised in Albany. David was a veteran of the Air Force from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War. David married Patricia "Pat" (Viglucci) on June 9, 1956. Married for 58 years, they had three children, Lori (Greg Oldehoff), Michele, and David Jr. (Maureen). David and Pat started their married life in Albany, where David worked as an operations supervisor at AT&T in Albany. David is survived by his sister, Maureen Winrick of Charlotte, N.C., and predeceased by his brothers, Francis and Charles Whalen. He is survived by his grandchildren, Geoffrey and Brittany Oldehoff, and David Whalen III. David will always be remembered for his kind and gentle ways and especially for his sense of humor. David's true passion was his family, doting always on his grandchildren. David was a "die-hard" Boston Red Sox fan, who enjoyed greatly the jovial banter between himself and his fellow Yankees rivals! The family will be holding calling hours for David at Newcomer Cannon Funeral Home on July 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. A memorial Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church on July 30, at 10:30 a.m., with a burial at St. Agnes Cemetery to follow. Memorial contributions may be made in David's name to St. Peter's Community Hospice Inn, 315 S. Manning Blvd., Albany NY 12208.
