Foley, Donald D. ALBANY Donald D. Foley, 96, beloved husband of Elizabeth M. (Shafer) Foley, formerly of Delmar, son of the late Alice D. Rose and James Rose, passed peacefully at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center in Albany, on Saturday, June 7, 2014 after a long illness. He is also survived by a daughter, Carol A. Vanne of Greenwich; daughter, Patricia L. Coleman (Dennis) of Delmar; grandson, Michael P. Lynch (Lara); two great-grandchildren, Liam and Francesca Lynch of Bennington, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by a brother, Maurice W. Foley. After graduating from Cornell University in 1940, Don briefly worked for the New York State Department of Health before enlisting in the U.S. Army. During World War II, he was a sergeant serving as a medical technician in various areas of the European Theater and North African campaign. Don was retired from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in 1973 after 35 years of service as a wildlife biologist. Don enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, and his many varied interests included fishing, camping, hiking, hunting, photography, wine making, wood working and reading. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center, 180 Washington Ave. Ext., Albany.
