Walsh, Doris M. LATHAM Doris Mae Madsen Walsh, 88, died Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Albany Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Born in Troy on November 12, 1925, she was the daughter of the late William and Irene Bradshaw Madsen. Doris was raised in Averill Park where her family ran Madsen's Restaurant & Cabins. She graduated from Averill Park High School, Syracuse University and received her master's degree in education from the College of St. Rose in Albany. She was employed for a brief period as a social worker for Rensselaer County before becoming a school teacher. Mrs. Walsh taught kindergarten at St. Ambrose School in Latham for nine years and for over 30 years she taught second grade at the Southgate Elementary School in the North Colonie School District before retiring. She was a communicant of St. Ambrose Church in Latham. She enjoyed traveling, square dancing, playing tennis, crafts and was an avid reader. She enjoyed a lifelong membership with the Berlin Mountain Fish & Game Club. She was the beloved wife of the late William F. Walsh; devoted mother of Maurice Madsen (Shelley) Walsh of Albany and Meribeth Walsh (Michael) Tedisky of Woodstock, Conn.; adored grandmother of Brigid (Travis) Dodson, Ryan Walsh, Brehan Walsh, Seth (Katie) Mitchell, and Nathan Mitchell; great-grandmother of Aiden Richard Mitchell, Liam Patrick Dodson and Nora Aileen Dodson. The funeral service will be Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road in Latham with Rev. John F. Tallman officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call on Saturday prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 5 Computer Drive West, Suite 100, Albany, NY 12205.
