Elliott, Elizabeth Stowitts SMITHFIELD, Ky. Elizabeth Stowitts Elliott, 100, of Smithfield, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013. Elizabeth was born in Battle Creek, Mich., on May 26, 1913. She was preceded in death by the best man she ever knew, Frederick Dwight Elliott, whom she married on September 6, 1936. Her sister, Kathryn, also preceded her in death. Survivors include all of her children and grandchildren, Judith McNeirney (John), Michael Elliott (Judy), Diane Elliott (Steve Johnson) and Steven Elliott (Mara); 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was a talented artist, graduated from Michigan State University and produced many pieces of art. She passed her love of art to all her clan and inspired many of them to become creative artists in their own right. Elizabeth was long active in community service. She drove an ambulance and volunteered for the Red Cross during World War II. She was president of the Albany Medical Center Auxiliary and a member of the board. She was active in the Albany Institute of History and Art, the Progress Club of Delmar, and the Conrad Caldwell House in Louisville, Ky. Elizabeth had a legendarily positive outlook. She enjoyed summer vacations with her family at Gull Lake in Michigan and on Peaks Island in Maine. On her 100th birthday she sponsored the Elizabeth Stowitts Elliott Centennial Race at Churchill Downs and presented the trophy to the winning jockey. This celebration was enjoyed by numerous family members. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1206 Maple Lane, Anchorage, KY 40223.
