Galerie, Francis A. "Frank" MECHANICVILLE Francis A. "Frank" Galerie, 81, died peacefully at home Sunday morning, October 27, 2013 surrounded by his beloved family following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Cohoes, on March 24, 1932 to the late Francis and Florentine (Marion) Galerie, he was the youngest of six children. He attended Cohoes High School and enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country. He was a decorated Korean War Veteran, receiving among other medals, two purple hearts. He began his law enforcement career with the City of Mechanicville Police Department in 1964. He was appointed to the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office in 1967 as a deputy sheriff and rose to the ranks of sergeant and senior investigator, retiring in 1993. He was honored by former Lieutenant Governor Maryann Krupsak for his brave actions during the October 1976 sniper shooting in the City of Mechanicville. Frank loved golf and spent a good portion of his retirement at the Mechanicville Golf Club, where he also served as a board member, house chairman and president. He also enjoyed many hours at the Saratoga Racino. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 91, Korean War Veteran's Association, the John Ahearn Rescue Squad and the J.L Short Ladder Fire Company. Frank was predeceased by his brothers, George and Edmond Galerie; and sisters, Georgette Racicot and Pauline DeVoe. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anna (Peluso) Galerie; son, Francis E. (Patricia) Galerie of Malta; daughter, Annette (Edward) Coon of Stillwater; grandchildren, Edward (Jen) Coon, Nicholas (Amy) Coon, Frankie Galerie, Ashley (Nick) Arpey; great-grandson, Hunter Arpey; sister, Theresa Santandrea of Albany; brother-in-law, Louis Peluso; and sister-in- law, Jane Peluso along with many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 29 from 4-7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 30 at noon at All-Saints on the Hudson South Church, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville, followed by a burial with military honors at the Saratoga National Cemetery.
