Kibler, Gordon L. TROY Gordon L. Kibler, 78, former superintendent of the Wynantskill Union Free School District, passed away on April 27, 2013, with his family by his side at Albany Medical Center after a brief illness. Gordon was born in Hope, N.Y. on July 17, 1934, to Clarence and Irene Kibler. He was the loving husband of Nancy Rudes Kibler for 54 years. Raised in Wells, N.Y., he graduated Wells High School, earned a B.A. from SUNY Plattsburg, and a master's in education from the University at Albany. He had a passion for education and began his career teaching math and sciences at Wynantskill School, where he loved mentoring the many students who attended the school. He was promoted to principal and, as the school district expanded under his leadership, became the district superintendent. He retired in 1994. He was a member of Elks Lodge 141 in Troy, and continued to serve children in his community as a member of the Elks Lodge's Teenager of the Year Committee and as a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling and was always ready for the next adventure with his wife, Nancy, and their friends. He was always most at home at his cottage on Piseco Lake. He had a lifelong love for the Adirondacks, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and friends. His love of the outdoors also included skiing, snowshoeing, boating, and golf. He found joy in gardening. Every spring he looked forward to planning his gardens, working with the soil, and watching his plants grow. In addition to his wife, Nancy, he is survived by his sons, William (Susan) Kibler and his grandson, Alex of Califon, N.J., and G. Scott (Lyn) Kibler, of Plymouth, Maine. He is also survived by his sisters, Ella Long, of Gloversville, Darlene Brower of Gloversville and Beth Szatzmary of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Philip. The funeral service for Gordon will be held on Wednesday morning, May 1 at 9:15 a.m. from the Bocketti Funeral Home, 336 Third St., Troy and at 10 a.m. at Saint Michael the Archangel Church, 175 Williams Road, Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
