Loveridge, Harold Raymond SAND LAKE Harold "Ray" Loveridge, age 88, and a longtime resident of Sand Lake, entered into eternal life on Sunday, February 10, 2013. Born in Rensselaer, January 2, 1925, Ray was the son of the late Phillip Mills Loveridge and Leila Estelle Lepp. He attended Rensselaer High School until enlisting into the United States Army to serve in World War II. Ray was a medic on the Hospital Ship during the war and made 27 trips across the Atlantic, caring for the injured being returned home. He also was involved in one of the largest prisoner of war exchanges with Germany. Upon his discharge, he remained active as a sergeant in the NYNG. He was proud of his service to his country and to his community- being a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and having served as a member of the Sand Lake Kiwanis Club for a number of years. Ray was instrumental in several Kiwanis projects working with kids, such as the annual Orange Crate Derby and improvements to Butler Park, including the building of the park stage and fitness trail. Ray was a skilled and talented laborer in many construction trades, eventually retiring as an electrician from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 724. In his earlier days, he taught judo and self defense to interested Sand Lake residents. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, dependability, strong work ethic and his love of life and family. Ray was predeceased by his brothers, Phillip and John of Phoenix, Ariz. and his sister, Ruth Flynn (Robert) of Colonie. He is survived by his five children, Robert (Joann Beach) of Schodack, David (Tammie) of Taborton, Bonnie (John) Carney of West Palm Beach, Fla., Jody (Erica Dalton) of Charleston, S.C. and Shannon (Katie Benjamin) of Troy; he is also survived by seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several cousins, nieces and nephews and his beloved friend Mary Glass of Troy. Funeral from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue in Rensselaer Friday at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome to attend. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Thursday, February 14, from 4-7 p.m. Interment will be in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands.
