Clough, James H. WATERVLIET James H. "Cleo" Clough, 49, passed from this life on Thursday, December 12, 2013. Born in Troy on September 12, 1964, Jim was the fifth child of Maurice H. Clough of Watervliet and the late Sally A. Frawley Clough. Cleo grew up on Fifth Avenue in a wonderful family and was raised with a great group of friends known as the "Morons" who have remained friends for life. He graduated from Sacred Heart of Mary School and was a 1982 graduate of Watervliet High School. Cleo was an exceptional football player and anchored the middle linebacker position for the Cannoneers. He was named to the Troy Record "All-City" and Times Union "All-Area" teams. He also was a member of the Watervliet Cannoneers championship varsity basketball team in 1982. He later attended Cortland State College and graduated from the Zone 5 Law Enforcement Training Academy held at Hudson Valley Community College. Cleo was employed at Portec Steel in Troy before being appointed to the Watervliet Police Department on July 16, 1988. He served the city as a police officer until he retired due to a disability on March 13, 2004. Most recently, he was employed by Clickner Security, Inc. as a security officer at the General Electric Research and Development Center. He was a member of the Watervliet K of C, the Watervliet PBA, Friday night poker club and was named Volunteer of the Year by the Watervliet Little League. Jim was also an assistant coach for the 1987-88 Cohoes Tigers. He loved to spend a fall Saturday afternoon at West Point rooting on the Cadets or driving to Lake George to have a Capri Pizza. The happiest days of Jim's life were spent with his children; from coaching Mitchell at the Watervliet Little League, to making new friends at Teagan's AAU girl's basketball tournaments or to traveling with Brooke to play soccer. In and around Watervliet, everyone knew and loved Cleo. He could light up a room with his larger-than-life personality and smile. In addition to his father Maury (Pat Ethier) Clough, he is the best dad of Mitchell Maurice Clough, Teagan Nicole Clough and Brooke Victoria Clough; former husband of Lynn Larkin Clough; dear brother of Marie Bolt and Debbie (Dave) Pitaniello, both of Watervliet, Colleen (Tim) Agars and Peggy (Larry) Connors, both of Latham, and John (Tamara) Clough of Lebanon, Ohio. To everyone he met he was the best "Uncle Jim," most especially to his many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Monday, December 16, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Seventh Avenue and 25th Street, Watervliet where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Cleo will be laid to rest with his Mom and Nana at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. Contributions would be appreciated to the James H. Clough Children's Trust, c/o Parker Bros.
