John Crispin Anderson (better known as Jace to close friends and family), age 54, died peacefully at home with his family and friends present in Virginia Beach on June 17, 2013, after a brief illness. Born February 4, 1959 in Long Island to John O. Anderson and Joanne M. Anderson, he attended Catholic Central High School where he excelled in academics and soccer, attended SUNY Albany where he obtained his bachelor's degree and graduated from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterrey, Calif. with a master's degree. John served in the United States Navy on active duty until he retired October 1, 2012, attaining the rank of Commander. On April 27, 1992, he married Debra and they have been married for more than 21 years. His Navy career took him around the globe from Japan to Kuwait to Diego Garcia to the Phillippines and crisscrossing the United States. When growing up he loved skiing with his family at Jiminy Peak. His mother who didn't ski but provided encouragement ofetn went along. He looked forward to visiting relatives in Elmira, and hunting with his father, brother and Uncle Hank. John loved the holidays and brought that joy to his daughter, Elizabeth. They would decorate the house (inside and out) and put out his Dickens villages. His other favorite time of the year was fall, with the changing of colors and Halloween. His favorite pastime was to sit and rock in his favorite chair on the patio, his devoted dog Whisper by his side, drink in hand and read from his large selection of cook books. John will be especially remembered for his thoughtful gifts, witty personality and love of the holidays. He was always up for a good joke or a board game and a bad day of golf at the golf course.
